High Street Improvement Evaluation

1/2

The purpose of this survey is to evaluate a number of projects delivered in Driffield town centre since 2022 and inform future actions to support the high street.

Increased Parking Times – Middle Street North

In October 2022 and following requests from members of the Driffield Town Centre Steering Group, an 18-month Experimental Traffic Restriction Order (ETRO) was applied for in Middle Street North.

This extended the parking from one hour to two hours in the on-street parking bays located on Middle Street North between the Cheeky Squirrel and the Church Lane junction.

The council’s Local Growth Team are now proposing for this order to be made permanent.

An Electric Vehicle Charging Consultation is currently live to inform to help East Riding of Yorkshire Council (ERYC) and Hull City Council (HCC) decide how to expand the public electric vehicle charging facilities provided by each Local Authority.

We are keen to hear from our residents to help us understand what your needs and aspirations are so ERYC and HCC can help their residents achieve their future ambitions regarding electric vehicle usage. This survey is live until 31 March 2024 and can be accessed via this link: https://consultation.eastriding.gov.uk/s/hey_evcharging

Bus Shelter Upgrades

A town centre bus shelter audit was completed in 2021 which highlighted a number of bus shelters in poor condition in Driffield town centre.

Replacement shelters, including the introduction of bench seating, have since been installed in George Street, Middle Street South and Bridlington Road with funding provided by the European Regional Development Fund and UK government.

The aim of this work is to improve the public transport experience of those visiting Driffield town centre by bus, encouraging them to use services and visit the high street shopping area more frequently.

Parklet

In April 2022, an engagement took place to gather public opinion on the proposal for the installation of a parklet to provide the community with additional seating and dwell space in the town centre.

The results returned were in favour of the proposal, with the preferred style being an al fresco dining. The parklet was installed in Middle Street South as an 18-month pilot in October 2022.

The end of the trial period is now approaching, and Driffield Town Council are in agreement to adopt the parklet as an asset and retain it in Middle Street South.

Thank you for your contribution. Results and progress will be shared following completion of the survey.
