Early signs show that despite extremely difficult trading conditions, steady progress is being made overall with an improvement in the performance of the town centre. A combination of new businesses opening in the town centre and long-awaited redevelopment works have also started to address longstanding vacant retail units. The town centre vacancy rate has reduced from 14.9% in December 2020 to 10.6% in July 2021.
